One Day with God 2012

By your actions of service and love, you can bring hope to those living in the dark world of incarceration. How? By participating in the One Day With God camps in the Detroit area in January, March or June 2012. We’re excited about the changes that God’s love will make in the lives of the children, their mothers and the overall prison population in 2012. If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact Melissa at 734-434-4044 for a volunteer form.

Sunday School Breaks until 2012

Our adult and children’s Sunday School classes will be observing a planned break for the Christmas and New Year holidays, so there will be no Sunday School classes next Sunday, December 25 or the following Sunday, January 1. Sunday School classes will resume on January 8.

Thanks for Your Help

Thanks to everyone who participated in any way in last Sunday’s presentation of “Searching for the King”. God truly blessed this major outreach. There were 477 people in attendance! On display that night were the spiritual attitudes and behavior Pastor Brian preached about last Sunday morning from Philippians 2:19-23Open Link in New Window: selflessness and teamwork. Many people were willing to forgo their own comfort for the sake of others. May God richly reward those people who endured many inconvenient rehearsals, sore bodies, endless details, frustrating circumstances, sacrifices of many kinds in order to present a top-notch presentation of the cantata. Thank you for rallying as a team, doing many menial tasks in order to get the job done! – Pastor Brian and Marti Scott

Thanks also to everyone who contributed so generously to the military project connected with the adult choir’s presentation of “Searching for the King”. We exceeded our goal, so we no longer have a need for contributions to this project. We were able to give out 25 gift cards to veterans and active duty soldiers. The gift cards are to well-known restaurants. We will use the rest of the contributions to honor other military personnel in someway. Thanks again for helping to make our recognition of those serving in the military very successful! -Marti Scott

Searching for the King

On Sunday night, December 11 at 6 p.m. the Calvary Bible Church adult choir will present “Searching for the King.”

In addition to beautiful music, this cantata includes drama depicting the magi following the star to the manger as well as a modern-day soldier whose childhood friend is killed in battle. He wrestles with questions about God but is eventually led to the manger by his friend’s grieving mother.

Join us for this great Christmas celebration. A dessert reception will follow the cantata presentation.

Bible study and prayer are the two major ways in which God brings grace into a believer’s daily life. You know that these are necessary for spiritual growth and for avoiding the traps of sin.

So, shouldn’t your church help you to spend time in God’s word consistently? Shouldn’t we equip you to make the most out of your daily Bible study by teaching you how to do it more effectively? Shouldn’t we help you apply what you’ve learned so that you can walk in obedience and not just in knowledge? Should we encourage you to go beyond surface acquaintances to building deep, godly friendships with others in our church around God’s word who will pray with you and for you consistently and fervently?

Yes.

That’s why we offer small groups! In fact, this ministry is one of our Core Four ministries here at Calvary.

And, this Sunday, you have the opportunity to sign up for one of these groups. After each of our services this Sunday (9 & 11:30) you will see tables in the back of the room where you can sign up. When you sign up, you will receive a schedule and the material to begin studying in order to prepare you for our first discussion on September 21. These are the leaders: Blake Hasselbring, Tim Inman, Eric Johnson, Sara Perkins (women only), Rich Phillips, Ken Pope—GRASS LAKE, and Rich Ramirez.

All you have to do is:

  • decide which small group leader you’d like to study with this year.
  • come to one of our worship services this Sunday.
  • sign up after the service on the clipboard for the leader you’ve chosen
  • take the material, if you want to use it, and get started!

Room assignments will be posted September 18. You can get all the material in one compressed (.zip) folder by clicking here. To download the material individually, visit this page.

This will be a huge blessing in your Christian life; don’t miss it.
